JBL & Martin Garrix Music Academy Contest
Official Rules
The JBL & Martin Garrix Music Academy Contest (“Contest”) is a voluntary contest that is subject to these Official Rules (“Official Rules”) as made available either on the JBL website for the Participating Countries as indicated hereinafter (the “JBL website”) or on https://www.mubazar.com/en (the “Mubazar Platform”). The Contest is sponsored by HARMAN International Industries Incorporated. (hereinafter to be referred to as “the Sponsor”), a private limited company incorporated under the laws of the Delaware, having its registered office at 400 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT 06901, USA. These Official Rules form a binding legal agreement between you and the Sponsor with respect to any issues arising from the Contest.
No purchase is necessary to participate in the Contest. A purchase will not improve Participant’s chances of winning.
1.Eligibility: The Contest is open to legal residents of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand, , the United States of America, India (excluding State of Tamil Nadu), Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom (“Participating Countries”), who are of the age of 18 or above at the time of their entry, and who meet the requirements of these Official Rules (“Eligible Participant”). In order to participate in the Contest, Eligible Participants must be able to speak English at an intermediate level and have internet access. Employees of Sponsor or any of its affiliated companies, subsidiaries and advertising/promotion agencies and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate. The Contest is subject to all applicable laws, rules and regulations and is void where prohibited.
2.The Contest:The Contest consists of the following three (3) phases:
Phase 1:
During the Submission Period of Phase 1, Eligible Participants must submit their Entries in accordance with Section 3 below. Sponsor will then select the Shortlisted Artists (as defined below) in accordance with Sections 6 and 7.
Phase 2:
During Phase 2, Shortlisted Artists will be invited to take part in various shortlisting activations, such as (but not limited to) a listening session (offline or online), curated by a music expert. During this session, Winners will be asked to share one musical piece which must be their own individual creation and must comply with the requirements for submissions of these Official Rules (the “Musical Piece”). The Musical Piece will be judged based on the criteria Artistic Quality, Originality and Creativity as further defined in Section 6 below and two (2) Semi-Finalists will be chosen (the “Semi-Finalists”). The Semi-Finalists will be announced by Sponsor between August 1st and September 15 th . 2024
Phase 3:
Out of the two Semi-Finalists, Sponsor, Martin Garrix and his artist team will select one (1) Finalist on the basis of all submissions provided by the Semi-Finalists during Phases 1 and 2 and based on the criteria Artistic Quality, Originality and Creativity as further defined in Section 6 below. The Finalist will be notified and announced between September 16 th and September 30 th 2024.
3. How to Enter the Contest: By entering the Contest, the Eligible Participant acknowledges that it has received prior notice of these Official Rules as provided on the JBL website and Mubazar Platform, has reviewed these Official Rules, and agrees to be bound by these Official Rules. To Enter the Contest, Eligible Participants must:
(i) visit either the JBL website or the Mubazar Platform and register for the Contest using their name, email address under which they can be reached, , country of residence, and links to their social media accounts,
(ii) provide a maximum of 3 demos featuring their own original musical creation,
(iii) submit a motivation video with a maximum length of 2 minutes, and
(iv) agree to these Official Rules and the Privacy Policy of the website and/or platform for entry and their respective country of residence.
Each Eligible Participant may only submit one unique Entry during the Submission Period. Whether an Eligible Participant registered via the JBL Website or the Mubazar Platform has no influence over Eligible Participants’ chances of winning. The submitted entries must be original.
In order to meet the Entry Requirements, submitted materials must not:
- Contain the names, likenesses, or other indicia identifying any individual person, including without limitation any celebrity or other public or private figure, living or dead, without their written permission;
- Include, display, or otherwise incorporate any person under the age of 18;
- Contain material that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, profane, hateful, tortious, defamatory, slanderous, violent or libelous;
- Contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age;
- Contain material that is unlawful, or endorses or promotes unlawful conduct;
- Contain content that belongs to third parties or that infringes on the trademark, copyright or other intellectual property rights of others, and or;
- Contain content that has been published and/or entered into other competitions.
In addition to the above Entry Requirements, Entries must meet the file and format specifications as indicated on the JBL website or the Mubazar Platform.
Sponsor reserves the right to exclude any Entry that it believes, in its sole discretion, does not meet the above criteria or contains any material with which the Sponsor does not wish to associate itself, in its sole discretion.
4.Submission Period: The Submission Period begins at 09:00 am (CET) on Tuesday, 5 th March2024 and ends at 23:59 pm (CET) on Tuesday, 30 th April 2024. Eligible Participants may submit only one Entry.Entries for the Contest must be received by the Submission Period End Date according to Sponsor’s internal time clock. Entries will not be considered if received after the Submission Period End Date regardless of cause.
5. Shortlisted Artist announcement: The Shortlisted ArtistsShortlisted Artistshall be notified via e-mail sent to the e-mail address provided by them during registration for the Contest in June – July 2024. Shortlisted Artists must respond within 48 hours after receipt of such notification and confirm their availability to travel to and attend the JBL & Martin Garrix Music Academy to be held in Amsterdam between October and November 2024, the exact dates of which will be communicated by Sponsor to Shortlisted Artists. Sponsor may contact Shortlisted Artists via telephone call if Shortlisted Artists do not respond to notification within 48 hours of receipt.
The failure to respond timely to any notification may result in forfeiture of the prize and, in such case, Sponsor may select alternate Shortlisted Artists/finalists up to three (3) attempts in line with the Selection Criteria. The Eligible Participant selected as next Runner-Up may be selected if a Shortlisted Artist: (i) cannot be reached and/or fails to respond timely to any notification; (ii) fails, where required, to obtain all signatures on the Release and to return the documents in a timely manner as required pursuant to these Official Rules; or (iii) cannot accept or receive the prize for any reason. Shortlisted Artists will receive additional Prize arrangement details once eligibility is determined. In the event of a dispute about the identity of a Shortlisted Artist, each entry will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the email or social media account submitted at time of entry.
5. Prizes: In total, there will be thirty (30) Shortlisted Artists selected out of all Eligible Participants in all the Participating Countries in accordance with the terms of Section 6 and 7 below (the “Shortlisted Artist (s)”). Limit of one (1) Prize per Eligible Participant. Sponsor will grant the Prizes to such designated Shortlisted Artist subject to such Shortlisted Artist fulfilling the eligibility requirements as set out in these Official Rules.

(*) in the event a flight is not feasible due to the departure location of the Shortlisted Artist the Sponsor shall in its sole discretion designate another form of transportation. Sponsor only provides free flights from destination airports within the Participating Countries as listed above. No substitution, transfer, or cash redemption of prize permitted, provided however that Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize with another prize of equal or greater value should the advertised prize become unavailable for any reason. Shortlisted Artist cannot assign or transfer their prize to another person or entity. Shortlisted Artist is solely responsible for any local taxes on prize and may be requested to sign a tax form upon Sponsor’s request. No more than the stated number of prizes will be awarded. If there are not enough eligible entries, then less than the stated number of prizes, or no prize, will be awarded. If Shortlisted Artist is unable to travel during the period specified, the Prize shall be forfeited, and an alternate Shortlisted Artist may be chosen at Sponsor’s discretion. Shortlisted Artist is not entitled to the surplus for any unused portion of the prize. All expenses and travel costs not specifically outlined as part of the Prize are the responsibility of Shortlisted Artists. Delivery of Prize and travel arrangements will be made upon verification of eligibility by Sponsor. Shortlisted Artists are responsible for obtaining any insurance, if required or desired, along with any visas, passports and any other necessary documentation for travel. Shortlisted Artists must ensure that they fulfil the respective entry requirements applicable to them for entering the Netherlands during the event period. Shortlisted Artists accept Prize and any and all terms and conditions associated with the Prize, including those outlined by the hotel, the selected airlines and any other third parties, for which Sponsor has no control. Sponsor and any of such third-party vendors who provide the services as part of the Prize reserve the right to remove or to deny entry to any event or form of transportation as part of the Prize to Shortlisted Artist who engage(s) in a disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person at the hotel, during flight or transportation, or any event/location that Sponsor provides Shortlisted Artist access to as part of the Prize.
The Sponsor shall not be obliged to replace the Prize, the notification or its contents in which the Prize is awarded if it is lost after dispatch or destroyed.
6. Entry Judging: All Eligible Participants will be reviewed based on the following criteria:
- Artistic Quality 25%
Artistic quality assesses the technical skill, creativity, and emotional impact demonstrated in a musical piece. It focuses on the excellence and craftsmanship evident in the execution of the music.
- Originality 25%
Originality in music evaluates how a musical artist introduces unique and innovative elements, setting their work apart through fresh melodies, inventive arrangements, or distinctive stylistic elements.
- Brand fit 25%
Brand fit assesses how well a musical artist aligns with the identity and values of JBL brand.
- Creativity 25%
Creativity evaluates the artist's ability to explore innovative musical ideas, experiment with different genres, or bring fresh perspectives to the compositions.
The panel of judges consisting of representatives from Sponsor, Martin Garrix and his artist team will select the Shortlisted Artists out of all eligible Finalist Entries received during the Submission Period based on the above criteria.
Sponsor will send the full names of the judges to anyone to anyone who submits a request to the following email: jblwinner@harman.com within one (1) month after the Entry Close Date requesting details of the judges.
7. Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie at any level of judging, the panel of judges will re-evaluate the entries according to the criteria above until the tie is broken. The tied entries will be reconsidered until the tie is broken, in the judges’ sole discretion.
The decisions of the judges are final and binding.
8. Consent: Except when such is prohibited by law, participation in the Promotion entails participants granting express, irrevocable, royalty free, worldwide and unconditional consent to the publication of their names and photos, voice, photograph, video or film clips, biographical information and/or other visual likeness in any and all media or formats known or later developed without any further compensation, permission or notification for any purpose, including without limitation, commercial, advertising and promotional purposes in connection with Sponsor’s website and Sponsor’s social media accounts.By submitting an Entry into the Contest, Eligible Participant warrants and represents that Eligible Participant personally created the submitted material and/or has any/all rights including, without limitation, all copyrights to the materials as submitted. All entries (whether or not copyrightable) are the sole property of the Eligible Participant who must have obtained permission of any people featured in the entries (or their parents/guardians if children under 16 are featured).
The supplied visual and/or text material may not be of an offensive, obscene, vulgar, racist, sexist, discriminatory and/or pornographic nature. If the Sponsor believes that material violates good taste and morals, the Sponsor can then proceed with the disqualification of participant and/or the exclusion of participant from further participation.9. Personal details: The Sponsor or its affiliates shall collect only those personal details that have been expressly and freely given by the Eligible Participant in the context of this Contest. Personal details that are furnished shall be used only for the Contest and/or such purpose for which the Eligible Participant has furnished the data. In particular, the Eligible Participant agrees to allow Sponsor to process and publicise the name and image of Eligible Participant and their country of citizenship and to reproduce and communicate to the public any Video featuring Eligible Participant that Eligible Participant submits to Sponsor as its Eligible Entry. The Sponsor shall handle the personal details in accordance with the applicable statutory requirements. These personal details shall not be furnished to third parties without prior consent, except in the event the Sponsor is obliged thereto on the basis of statutory provision or a court decision.
The Sponsor shall use the furnished personal details for the administration of this Contest only, unless Eligible Participants have given permission for information to be used for marketing and promotional purposes.

10. Participation Conditions: By participating, Eligible Participants agree to be fully and unconditionally bound by these Terms and Conditions and the decisions of Sponsor and, except where prohibited, waive any right to claim ambiguity in the Promotion or these Terms and Conditions. Any portion of the Promotion may be canceled, suspended and/or modified, in whole or in part, if in Sponsor’s opinion any fraud, technical failure or other factor beyond our control impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the Promotion. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who is found to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Promotion or the Website, to be acting in violation of these Terms and Conditions, or to be acting in an unsportsman-like or disruptive manner, or with the intent to disrupt or undermine the legitimate operation of the Promotion, or to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person, and where allowed, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages and other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Entrants may not enter with multiple identities or use any automated system, bot or other device or artifice to enter or obtain more than the maximum number of qualified entries. Unclaimed prizes will not be awarded. All tariffs arising from this Promotion will be the sole responsibility of Shortlisted Artist.
During the entire Contest (from submission entry to selection of winners), participants must have a valid identification (i.e. passport), and, immediately on request, make a copy thereof available to the Sponsor or its affiliate, and be available for identification thereafter. Employees of the Sponsor and of all affiliated companies, subsidiaries and advertising/promotion agencies and their immediate family members are barred from participation.
In order to qualify for participation and to enter the chance to win a Prize, participants must enter a valid e-mail address on the participation application form. Participants are also obliged to furnish all other desired information including name and phone number, failing which participation shall not be possible and/or the Prize shall not be awarded and not available for collection. Participants agree that the IP address of their computers shall be stored by the Sponsor and used for identification purposes. The Sponsor shall not disclose this information to third parties. The Sponsor retains the right to reject participants if they do not act in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. In the event the participant desires to be excluded from the Promotion, participant shall send an email to j blwinner@harman.com using subject ‘Martin Garrix Music Academy exclusion’ and in the email the relevant participant details.
Incorrect, illegible, incomplete, late or incorrectly addressed entries shall not be processed. The Sponsor and its affiliates shall not be liable for inadequate entries as a result of errors or technical failures of any nature whatsoever, including a poorly functioning network, hardware or software, irrespective of whether problems arise with the sender or the Sponsor.
The Sponsor retains the right to disqualify entries if the Sponsor is of the opinion that either abuse exists or aspects of the game are being violated.
In the event one of the provisions stated in these Terms and Conditions is infringed upon, participation shall by operation of law become null and void, possible claims to Prizes shall lapse and the participant shall be excluded from further participation.
11. Limitations of Liability: If for any reason an entry is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost or otherwise destroyed or corrupted, the Eligible Participant's sole remedy is to submit another entry into the same Contest during the Submission Period. Eligible Participant and Eligible Participant Winning Entrant also agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless Sponsor, and its parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, employees, governors, owners, distributors, retailers, assignees, advertising/promotion agencies, representatives and agents (collectively “Releasees”) from and against any claims, actions, liability, loss, injury or damages, disability, attorneys' fees, and costs of litigation and settlement, as well as any liability due to any injuries, damages or losses to any person (including, without limitation death to Eligible Participant, Eligible Participant Winning Entrant or any third party) or real property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, by any reason, from: (i) use, redemption, acceptance, possession, ownership, or misuse of any prize, (ii) participation in any activity, event, or excursion offered in connection with the prize, (iii) use of any facility, service and/or accommodation related to the prize, or (iv) participation in any Contest-related activity or participation in this Contest.The Releasees shall not be liable for: (i) late, lost, delayed, misdirected, incomplete unreadable, inaccurate, garbled or unintelligible entries, communications or declarations, regardless of the method of transmission; (ii) telephone system, telephone or computer hardware, software or other technical malfunctions, lost connections, disconnections, delays or transmission errors; (iii) data corruption, theft, destruction, unauthorized access to or alteration of entry or other materials; (iv) any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by the prize or resulting from acceptance, possession or use of a prize, or from participation in the Contest; or (v) any printing, typographical, administrative or technological errors in any materials associated with the Contest. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, Releasees are not responsible for computer malfunctions, network connections, email delivery problems, Sponsor or third party systems failure or incompatibility, typographical, technical or key-stroke errors, or interruptions in your internet service, and for incomplete, illegible, misdirected, misprinted, late, lost, damaged or stolen notifications.In the event Sponsor is prevented from continuing with the Promotion as contemplated herein by any event beyond its control, including but not natural limited to (a) acts of God,; (b) fire, hurricane, flood, earthquake, epidemic, pandemic or any other (natural) disaster; (c) riot, war, armed conflict, invasion, terrorist threats or act, destruction of production, office or warehouse facilities; (d) acts of any national, supranational, or public or military authority,; (e) national or regional emergency; (f) import/export embargoes, blockade, industrial disputes,; (g) unavailability or delay in supply of (raw) materials, transportation services, customs services or labour on normal commercial terms, or (h) power outages or shortages, or telecommunication breakdowns or other cause not reasonably within Sponsor’s control (each a "Force Majeure" event or occurrence), then subject to any governmental approval which may be required, Sponsor shall have the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Promotion. If the Promotion is terminated before the designated end date, Sponsor will (if possible) select the Shortlisted Artists from all eligible, non-suspect entries received as of the date of the event giving rise to the termination. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these rules shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein.
Nothing in these terms shall limit or exclude liability for death or personal injury, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation or liability which may not be limited or excluded by law.12.
